Sunburned Virgins

After much fretting, fussing and wringing-of-hands about whether they could afford to embark upon their 11th annual TuTu Much Caribbean tour of the US and British Virgin Islands, Dr. Easy, tired of all their recalcitrant whining, finally thwacked them upon their collective foreheads and implored to David and Miss Mary that "Economy be damned! You twits can ill afford to stay home and freeze your collective butts off in the dark, mind-and-finger-numbing Northeast winter, stoking the fires of your discontent!" On he ranted, eyes bulging behind his perpetual dark sunglasses, nostrils flaring, "The disappointment from the hoards of those sweating, sunburned continentals who've come to expect your TuTu Much brand of easy-breezy escapist music as an essential component of their Caribbean itinerary would no doubt rival the world banking crisis in its deleterious impact!"

Besides (and more to the point), how could David and Miss Mary, both suffering from early onset of WAD (Winter Aversion Disorder) get the relief and treatment they sorely needed unless they dropped down closer to the equator? Where would they find that most precious of elixirs, the luscious lime & coconut rum drinks made as only Guy Walsh from Miss Lucy's Restaurant can make 'em unless they went to Miss Lucy's restaurant and got 'em from Guy? Or how could they hike the spectacular Ram's Head, Johnny Horn or Cinnamon Bay trails unless they boldly strapped on their feet and hiked 'em? Or how would they sail over to Foxy's on Jost van Dyke or Cane Bay in Tortola unless they hooked up with Capt. Larry out of Coral Bay and sailed there? Would they be able to "make art" and hang out high above Haulover Bay unless they visited Annie & Larry's hilltop hideaway? Or enjoy a cold, homemade maube and hot, fried chicken with plantain while listening to Miss Ina's (92 years old!) stories of "de ol' ways" unless they stopped in to see Genny and Hendry? Would they find one-of-a-kind larimar jewelry and crafts unless they hung out with Kiko and TuTu at their shop, TuTu Much (yup, that's the name!)? Could they eat conch fritters with a cold Carib while sunning on a half-mile strand of sugar-white sand unless they returned to Cinnamon or Maho Bays? How would David be able to make his found-sound Rattle-Caps and sell them to St. Johnian scratch-band musicians like Wesley unless he went and jammed with CoCo & The Sunshine Band? Who would Miss Mary play steel pan duos with unless they hooked up with their old pal "Steel Pan" Morgan over in Magens Bay, St. Thomas? Could they learn new quelbe scratch tunes or dance in the moonlight to InnerVisions' rootsy reggae unless they made the scene at Sputnik or Fred's? Could they find fresh coconuts and sugar apples, humming birds and mongooses, petroglyphs and fish-fry with Red Stripe all in the same day?

Not unless they went to St. John.

So, it's official: The 11th annual Caribbean tour, dubbed "THE SUNBURNED VIRGINS TOUR" will kick off on February 28 and go through March 20, 2009. (Yeh, OK, so they look pretty old to be virgins. Don't obsess about it...it's just a tour name...jeeez!). Based out of Coral Bay on St. John, TuTu Much will hold forth until March 14. David Reed, with his solo "American Idle" show, will finish up the last week of the tour on March 20. Shows will be Tuesday through Saturday evenings (closed Monday) from 6-9PM at Miss Lucy's Restaurant in Coral Bay, St. John - a spectacularly special place with some of the finest food and arguably one of the most beautiful settings in the Caribbean. Reservations strongly encouraged! (340) 693.5244

Other venues may be added later because that's the way it is in de islands...no problem, mon, soon come!
